Ferrari Vice General Manager Amedeo Felisa announced the new addition to the line-up recently at the Detroit motor show. The new car is again an application of Ferrari's motorsport-derived technologically advanced engineering applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupé. The 599 GTB is equipped with a 5,999cc V12 - derived directly from the Ferrari Enzo - which produces 620hp at 7,600 rpm with a power to weight ratio of 2.6 kg per horsepower. The Pininfarina designed body is constructed from aluminium - body and chassis. - and needless to say has been designed using advanced aerodynamic modelling. The new model is the latest in a long line of Ferrari V12 berlinettas and represents the latest interpretation of a theme that includes classics like the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4. The 599 GTB is a replacement for the 575M Maranello, which - together with the 550 Maranello introduced in 1996 - set a Ferrari production record at 5,700 cars. The new car is due to be officially unveiled on the 28th February at the Geneva motor show. © italiancar.com.au 16/01/06
