Alfa relaunch the Spider

Within months of announcing its demise Alfa have announced the Spider will be re-born at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show (28 February to 12 March 2006) with the launch of the all-new Spider - the very first four wheel drive Spider.

The new Spider is a generously-sized two-seater - 1,830 millimetres wide, 4,396 long and 1,367 high - characterised by elongated rear lights and four exhaust pipes. The interior uses sumptuous materials and includes automatic dual-zone climate control and the hallmark Alfa steering wheel mounted radio controls. The new version is equipped with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and cruise control. Available in two versions, there is the choice of either a 138 kW 2.2 JTS engine or the top of the range 195 kW 3.2 JTS.

High double wishbone suspension at the front and Multilink at the rear should give the car good ride comfort and good handling. The 'Q4' four wheel drive - available on the 260 bhp 3.2 version - should give added grip. Like the new 159 model, the new Spider has been awarded the Euro NCAP five star safety rating.

The new Alfa Spider will go on sale in Australia in 2007, when local prices and specifications will be announced.
