Maserati racing celebrated with commemorative watch

The motor sport success of the Maserati MC12 in the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers' Cup is celebrated by the new and exclusive Audemars Piguet watch, the Millenary MC12 Tourbillon and Chronograph. The timepiece mirrors the colours of the MC12 road car, white and blue, and will be produced in a limited series of 150 in platinum 950.

"Tradition, excellence, daring are the values on which Maserati and Audemars Piguet have based their partnership," explains Edward Butler, General Manager for Maserati in Australia and New Zealand. "Audemars Piguet is closely associated with the "Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa" and the renowned watch manufacturer in Le Brassus is also the official sponsor of the MC12 cars participating in the GT competitions, so they clearly share Maserati's passion for motor sport!"

The MC12 - the road-going super car characterised by its white and blue livery, harks back to the colours of the famous Birdcage that raced in the Sixties. Only 50 have been produced, and these sold in 2004 and 2005 for Euro 720,000 each (AUS$1.2 million). The racing version was developed from the road-going model and it is the car that marked Maserati's return to racing in the FIA GT Championship. Maserati went on to win the FIA GT Manufacturers' Cup in 2005 in its second year of competition.

The new Audemars Piguet Tourbillon and Chronograph and the GranSport MC Victory were both officially launched at Geneva to celebrate Maserati's success in the FIA GT Championship. Maserati has won 500 races in 30 years of motor sport and is clearly pleased to be back in the fray.
