Malvern Motorsport and Monza Motors have joined forces to form “GTA Racing” to run two of the sensational new Alfa Romeo 147 GTA’s in the Procar GT Performance Series. The team has the support of John Blair Alfa Romeo, Australia’s number 1 Alfa Romeo Dealer, and is currently in negotiation with other sponsors.

Fitted with Alfa’s legendary 250 HP 3.2 ltr quad cam V6, the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA is a product of a rich motorsport heritage and sets new benchmarks in style and performance. The 147 GTA has been hailed as a “thorough job” with race car emotion making it a perfect fit with the GTP Category.

The team has engaged drivers Scott Farquharson and Hugh Harrison, both successful competitors and long time Alfa stalwarts.

Vice President of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, Scott is a regular competitor in the Sportscar category of the Victorian State Motor Racing Championships in an Alfa Romeo GTV6 where last year he finished 3rd in his class and has several Winton 6Hr finishes under his belt. Scott also races the ex-Gulson Dulux Alfa Romeo GTV6 2.5ltr in the national Historic Group C Touring Cars category. After winning his class in 2002, Scott is again leading his class this year and running an impressive 2nd outright against the big thumping V8s.

Hugh is a two time Victorian Sports Sedan Champion, State Race Series Champion and lap record holder at Rob Roy Hillclimb driving the ex-Alan Jones/Colin Bond Ignis Alfa Romeo GTV6. He also plans campaign the car in the now Historic Group A category. An endurance specialist with a talent for bring the car home in one piece while delivering hot laps when it counts, Hugh has 3 wins from a dozen Winton 6 Hour starts and last year was a finisher in the gruelling inaugural Bathurst 24 Hour in the Donut King Car. As a result, he has been invited back to drive this year.

“We have both been looking at competing in the GTP series for some time, but to be able to do it in the hottest Alfa for some time is fantastic for us” said Scott.

“I have raced Alfa’s for years, and I think this 147 GTA looks like it has the potential to be a real race winner” added Hugh.

The Alfa Romeo 147 GTA’s are currently on their way to the Malvern Motorsport workshops where they will be stripped and rebuilt to GTP specifications prior to their Australian competition debut. Look out for them in the 2004 championship.
