ItalianCar has sponsored Auto Italia Canberra - the largest annual gathering of Italian cars in Australia - for four years now and we always try to bring a crowd puller: two years ago it was the brand new Lamborghini Gallardo, last year it was a shiny new Lamborghini Murcielago alongside an Alfa 147 GTA Monza we had on test.

This year we had big plans – we wanted to feature the most expensive Italian car – the Pagani – next to the cheapest – the new Fiat Grande Punto (Australian launch scheduled for June this year). The first blow to this scheme was when Ateco Automotive, Australian importers of Fiat (and Alfa and Ferrari and Maserati) told us that the only Fiat Grande Punto in the country would be undergoing compliance with ADR (Australian Design Rules) prior to launch and so would not be available on the date of the show. Not to worry – we still had the Pagani, so we thought…
